INTO THE BLUE
Blue is a popular colour in interiors. There are so many shades of blue to create various effects - even the slightest change can alter the statement from bold and optimistic to quiet and tranquil. Whether you want blue to dominate your home or you just want to add a dash, choose your tone carefully and remember you can add variety through texture and pattern.
Add depth and interest to your sitting room by blending a spectrum of blues, from light to bright to dark. Use classic blue striped upholstered furniture to introduce a playful yet elegant note. Don’t be afraid of adding bright pops of colour such as fiery red: the bold contrast will wake up your scheme.
A bedroom calls for a soothing and peaceful environment so lean towards paler shades of blue or combine blue with natural colours. Blues with grey undertones can act as a neutral so they are a great choice for large pieces of wooden furniture such as bed frames and chests of drawers.
Blue works well in a more informal dining room, especially when combined with relaxed, modular banquette seating arrangement that encourages long lunches. Although blue is the dominant colour in the space, it enhances rather than competes with the vibrant red and white checkered floor.
Even if your interiors don’t currently include blue, it’s easy to introduce it using accessories. Different blues will evoke different moods: pale blue accessories will add instant calm to a scheme whereas bright blue accessories such as a turquoise rug will liven it up. Textured and patterned blue accessories, such as pottery, will bring character and diversity to your scheme.
